Substrate Preparation
Substrates to be treated with SLP - 12 must be hard, sound, and free of dust and other barrier materials such as paint, lime coatings,
plaster, curing agents, laitance, and adhesive residues that could inhibit adhesion. All surfaces should be thoroughly mechanically
prepared, cleaned, and repaired to ensure a strong mechanical key and adhesion. Use an appropriate degreaser to remove polish, wax,
grease, oil, and similar contaminants before mechanical preparation. Contaminated concrete surfaces should be mechanically
prepared by scabbling, grinding, or shot blasting, followed by thorough vacuuming before applying SLP - 12. Overwatered or weak
concrete surfaces should be properly prepared down to solid concrete. Ensure that dust and other debris are removed using vacuum
equipment. Any joints or cracks in the concrete base where differential movement is expected should be carried through to the finished
surface and appropriately sealed. New concrete slabs must be allowed to cure for at least 14 days.
Application
Surfaces should be firm and free from dust, dirt, and other barrier materials. Use a suitable degreaser to remove polish, wax, grease,
etc. SLP - 12 should be applied in a thin, even coat using a foam or short pile paint roller, brush, or squeegee, taking care to avoid the
formation of puddles. On smooth, impervious substrates, application by squeegee will quickly and effectively give a very thin film. Allow
the coating of SLP - 12 to dry to a clear, tacky film—typically 3 to 6 hours with a paint roller or brush application, and 1 to 3 hours with a
squeegee, depending on the substrate, temperature, and ventilation. If in doubt, allow it to dry overnight. Once dried, the primed surface
is ready for overlaying. However, if left for more than 4 days, a repeat application of SLP - 12 will be necessary.
Storage and Shelf Life
SLP - 12 should be stored under conditions similar to cement—cool, dry, and shaded warehouses. The product should not be stored in
direct contact with the floor. When stored correctly, SLP - 12 will have a shelf life of 9 months.
